Against the Storm Early Access to End and Release Date Trailer

Hooded Horse and developer Eremite Games have announced an Early Access end date for their fantasy roguelite city builder, Against the Storm, in a new release date trailer. Plus the game is coming to PC Game Pass in December.

Just a little over two years ago, Against the Storm launched in Early Access on the Epic Games Store. A year later, the game brought its Early Access phase to Steam and GOG. Currently Against the Storm has over 14,000 reviews on Steam and holds a 95% “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating.

Since the game’s Early Access release with just three species, beavers, humans, and lizardfolk, two more species have been added. Harpies first appeared in the Grace of the Harpies update. Besides the addition of harpies, the update also included caravans, alchemy and cloth specializations, several new buildings, new Queen orders, the Fallen Harpy Scientists glade event.

In February of this year, at the time of the Favoring update, a fifth species, foxes was revealed. The new species was introduced after a community vote between bats, frogs, and foxes.

During the Early Access development period the game had seen content updates roughly every two weeks that brought major and minor changes to the game. Now heading into the official 1.0 release update, a new mode called “Queen’s Hand” will challenge the most experienced Viceroys. This mode gives players a single Cycle to tackle the game’s most challenging endeavor by reforging the Adamantine Seal.

Starting with nothing, players will need to be strategic about their upgrade choices. This mode makes obtaining a complete set impossible. There is permadeath. If a player abandons a settlement or fails to reforge the Seal in time, all unlocks are reverted and the whole meta progression resets. For those who emerge victorious, they will be awarded with the title of Queen’s Hand and are granted a rare audience with the Scorched Queen.

A new Against the Storm 1.0 Release Date Trailer is available for viewing that gives a brief overview of gameplay. From starting out a settlement on a forever apocalyptic rainy world, players vie for the Queen’s blessing by completing her orders. No two gameplays are the same as the maps are procedurally generated and requires players to adapt their strategies. Only by creating a self-supporting settlement will players be able to advance on to the next settlement and survive against the storm.
