It is time to crack a few eggs and scramble up the full version 1.0 launch release of the egg-filled platforming adventure, YOLKED – The Egg Game. The Hitcents published and Hardboiled Studios developed title breaks out of its Early Access shell with loads of new content.
A mad scientist is attempting to create an army of mutant eggs through his heinous eggs-periments. One egg has had enough wants to escape. To prevent an untimely expiration, one will need to explore the scientists home. From the supposedly safe kitchen to totally threatening lab, this egg will need to traverse without cracking up.
With the 1.0 release comes a brand new level and extended ending for the two-armed egg. Grabbing, swinging, and climbing are the only options available for the egg to travel. Regular household objects are now deadly threats. Falling spatulas, shattering wine glasses, and spraying condiment bottles are few obstacles to avoid. Plus there are those pesky biological entities such as bees, spiders, and of course the average home piranhas.
Players who master the easy to use controls can give their speedrunning skills a try and climb the global leaderboards. Throughout gameplay there are over 80 different egg costumes to unlock. Examples include Cactus, Devil, Football, and Pineapple. As one rolls their way towards their egg-scape, the mad scientist’s plans and secret are revealed.
YOLKED’s Development Journey
In late October 2021, YOLKED – The Egg Game launched on Steam Early Access. The game was first cooked up as a final project demo in an “Introduction to Video Game Development” course that the development team members Baha Okten, Floney Yang, and Hazel Wong, along with two other classmates took in spring 2020. Development began in 2020 and during the Early Access phase many egg puns and updates were released such as Endless Mode and Attic Level.
If you had asked us three years ago if we’d make it out of Early Access, we wouldn’t have believed you. YOLKED started out as a fun college project, and we couldn’t be more thrilled that it’s entered 1.0 on Steam. We can’t wait to see people’s high scores on the leaderboards and where we’ll go next!Hazel Wong, Game Developer and Co-Founder, HardBoiled Studios
