TerraScape Card Deck City Builder Enters Early Access

Toplitz Productions and German game developer Bitfall Studios have released their Early Access card deck city builder game, TerraScape. Available on PC, the game includes challenges, single player and multiplayer modes for the relaxing city builder.

Using a laid back approach to its puzzle formula for city creation, TerraScape uses a card based design where players score points while laying out their town on a hex grid. Through a random selection of cards to draw from, procedural maps, and challenges, players are put in a position where they need to strategically decide how they want to expand their creation.

Building cards offer different buildings for city expansion. Points are scored based on where the building is initially placed on the game map. Scoring factors include both positive and negative influences. Factors such as terrain, water access, or other nearby buildings can impact the total score of a placed building. By adding crops or by building industries such as forestry, mining, or fishing can add additional scoring opportunities.

Wise placement of cards in the world earn points and then players receive new cards as rewards to further develop their city. City planners will need to consider their build order and how a building’s placement on the building hexes will influence other building cards. For example putting a Saw Mill too close to another Saw Mill will result in a negative score the new building on the given hex tile.

We designed TerraScape to provide players with a relaxed and rewarding puzzle experience, that combined an innovative card deck system and city builder styled game that they can really invest their time and strategies into. We’re looking forward to developing the content and game modes further with the help of community feedback during early access.
