Indie development studio Bloober Team, who is known for their psychological horror games, introduced the The Maw in the latest trailer for The Medium. The It Came From The Rage trailer, viewable below, treats viewers are with the first glimpse into the dark origins of main antagonist of the game.
Voiced by Troy Baker, The Maw is the main spirit world entity. From the trailer, the game’s protagonist and main character, Marianne is a medium torn between two realities who meets up with a character called Sadness. This mysterious masked girl, Sadness, who resides at the abandoned Niwa Hotel is clearly concerned with the information that she relays to Marianne about The Maw.
In the dual-reality game that renders two distinct worlds simultaneously players enter a high-tension psychological horror that shows how perspectives change with perception. Living across two worlds, the real and the spiritual, players will quickly realize that nothing is as it seems and the truth is very complicated.
Movement between the two worlds is controlled by a single analog stick with no loadings screens. Interactions between the two realities allows players the ability to solve puzzles and explore various paths. Abilities between the two worlds also differ for example the spirit world offers an ability called Out of Body which can be seen in the previously release Dual Reality trailer.
The Medium is scheduled for a holiday 2020 release on Steam for PC and the Xbox Series X for $49.99 USD. Players who pre-order the game on Steam will also get The Medium original soundtrack, featuring a ‘dual’ score soundtrack by legendary composer Akira Yamaoka, of Silent Hill, and Bloober Team’s own Arkadiusz Reikowski, along with the digital artbook.
