Astroneer Launches Automation Update

It’s time for another big update with new features in the Automation Update from System Era Softworks for their hit space sandbox exploration game Astroneer. Automation is not only the name of the update, but the core focus with several new items to automate various tasks.

Astroneers are you ready to have more time to explore? With the Automation Update’s addition of Auto Arms and Auto Extractors one will suddenly find themselves with so much more time in game to do stuff.

Auto Extractors are a game changer. First off they can be used to gather resources without deforming the terrain. Just place an extractor on top of a resource node and collect materials. But wait, there’s more! Extractors also gather materials at a higher efficiency which will result in fifteen times more resources than manually gathering with the terrain tool.

Once one has collected all these resources what can they do with them? Storage can be often time consuming with creating the storage items and then placing of the materials onto the storage item. Well this too is no longer an issue. First there are the new Medium and Large Storage containers that can be used to consolidate a single resource type into its reservoir. From there materials can be individual taken as needed.

Still, manually moving resources one at a time is also time consuming. At this point it is time to bring in the Auto Arm. With this new automation feature one can kick back and watch the auto arm move items between platforms, storage and vehicles. They can be used to automate a variety of tasks that previously require manual input. Filters can be used to look for specific resources and create smart automation pipelines.

New logic features have been added to the game. Power Senors can be used to trigger generators. Storage Sensors can activate crafting modules based on a specific resource container. Button Repeaters passes an action to all objects connected to it so a sensor can trigger an action which then passes this action to several different platforms or modules.

Those who are just ready for a stylish new look while exploring space can check out the new in-game store. With this update, an all new suit is making its first appearance ever in the Exo Outfitters store. The bundle contains the Frame Suit, Robot Dance, and an animated Happy Blue Visor.

A full list of changes and bug fixes in the Automation Update can be found here. This update comes after a series of small patches that added Dedicated Servers, the Salvage Initiative community event, true flat and performance improvements. All of these followed the monthly updates from 2019 that introduced several new features and items to the game in updates such as Lunar Update, Wanderer Update, Ground Work Update, Creative Update and Holiday Update.

Astroneer is currently available on Humble Bundle or Steam for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 for $29.99 USD. For more information about Astroneer visit the game’s website at astroneer.space or follow @astroneergame on Twitter.
