Players who haven’t logged into System Era’s Astroneer should do so now as the Holiday Update went live on December 16 which includes first ever community goal.
Both in the patch notes and SES Vlog 35 details of the community event were explained. Players will progress the Exo Community Recovery Mission with the entire player base working to unlock exclusive rewards. By participating in Project CHEER to help EXO Dynamics, players are tasked with recovering delivery crates from an LRCV that crash landed all over the planetary system.
The Project CHEER holiday limited time event started on December 16, 2019 and runs until 12 AM PT on January 17, 2020. Rewards for player participation are dependent upon the amount of recovery points one achieves. At 400 recovery points the Frosty Visor is unlocked and at 2500 recovery points the Frosty Palette and Frosty Mask are unlocked. After the community goal of 100,000,000 recovery points is achieved the Holiday Top Hat Reward is unlocked.
As an added bonus, System Era Softworks is running an Extra Life campaign that is supporting Seattle Children’s Hospital based on the amount of recovery points the community as a whole achieves. At every 50,000,000 recovery points, SES will donate $5,000 USD to the campaign for up to a total of $20,000 USD. Interested players can join their team or donate to the cause at extra-life.org/team/48680.
The EXO Request Platform has been added which is used to send recovered Project CHEER experiments back to EXO Dynamics. Full mission parameters can be found on the module’s control panel. The new platform can be crafted on the Medium Printer for 2 Resin and 1 Aluminum.
Keeping in with the Holiday fun, festive light tethers have returned and will be available until the end of the year. A Happy Holidays photo frame has been added so players are encouraged to snap some holiday photos using the Camera item and take advantage of the limited time photo frame.
Additional performance optimizations were included in the update with optimized texture compression settings to reduce memory usage. Multiplayer games will see improvements with bug fixes for researching and tethers causing degraded performance. In the SES Vlog 35, the ongoing process of bugfixes and optimizations will continue. The next update will be focused solely on bugfixes, quality of life, and performance upgrades for multiplayer.
A full list of changes and bug fixes in the Holiday Update can be found in the patch notes which can be read on the System Era forums. This update is aligns with the roadmap of updates given earlier this year such as the Groundwork Update that dropped in October and Creative Update that came in November.
