It’s November and System Era Softworks has released the Astroneer Creative Update today along with the much anticipated Astroneer release on PS4.
The Astroneer Creative Update brings a whole list of new features to a new Creative Mode. In this mode players can create and explore without limitations and can turn off oxygen and power consumption if needed. Craftable items can be spawned and the terrain tool used without having to manage resources.
One of the new features in Creative Mode is the Creation Tool. This terrain tool variant was completely redesigned and is only available in Creative Mode. It contains an on board infinite soil canister and requires no power. The tool also includes new functionality with the Eyedrop Mode and Paint Mode for changing the terrain colors.
In the Delivery Catalog, accessible through the regular catalog, contains all EXO items unlocked along with new categories to support additional content found in the world. This includes resource nuggets, researchable items, hazard seeds, and much more. Items can be duplicated and deleted by using Backspace or D-Pad Left to delete and Enter or D-Pad Right to duplicate.
Free Flight mode allows players to travel anywhere and aids in creative large super structures. This feature is accessible by pressing the Spacebar or A/W twice to activate.
Terrain LOD Anchors are a new feature that “locks” the terrain to its highest resolution. This allows players to build larges structures or sculptures and still maintain a high resolution at a distance. Only 7 anchors may be active at any time. The limit is in place for performance reasons.
Plinths have been added to allow for rapid deployment of items directly from the backpack and come in multiple catergories: Backpack Printer Plinth, Small Printer Plinth, Medium Printer Plinth, Large Printer Plinth, Resource Plinth. Players can place them on the terrain and click on the currently selected hologram to deploy the item. This is useful for pulling the same item out of the backpack repeatedly.
Creative Mode can be turned on at any time, however, by turning on this mode all achievements are completely disabled indefinitely in the active save. In other words, create a new save or created an external backup of a save before turning on Creative Mode if it is desired to still complete achievements on the given save in the future.
A full list of the Creative Update patch notes which contains all updates and bug fixes can be read on the System Era forums. This update is keeping in line with the roadmap of updates given earlier this year such as the Groundwork Update that dropped in October.
Astroneer is currently available on Humble Bundle or Steam for PC, Xbox One, and now on the PS4 for $29.99 USD. More information about Astroneer can be found on it’s website at astroneer.space or follow @astroneergame on Twitter.
