Global publisher Green Man Gaming Publishing and indie developer Evil Twin Artworks have announced an end of June release date for their new comedic space adventure, The Galactic Junkers. The game will launch on Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One with a Nintendo Switch coming later in July.
Set in the far future after the Great Cataclysm destroyed the Earth, humanity was forced to spread across space to survive. While most humans are merely surviving, some space captains have decided barely hanging on is no longer enough. Players, as one of these captains, take off on a journey to build a new life for both themselves and their crew.
Being a space captain is not simple. While the adventures might be crazy fun, the ship is in need of repairs, the computer is moody, and there is a bounty on the captain’s head. Also, look out for space pirates and the Galactic Union who seems to be upset with the captain as well. As an added bonus the crew is a bunch of idiots and there are aliens lying in wait.
Exploration is at the heart of the game. All nine planets and their neighboring sectors can be explored with mysterious asteroids, abandoned shipwrecks, and deadly pirates waiting to be discovered. Players will need to mine, salvage, steal, and trade for resources and components to keep the ship functional. Ship upgrades can give engines a boost or guns more bang. Captains can even trade their ship for a better model. Skipping maintenance routines is ill-advised. If one can avoid getting blown up or captured they might live long enough to see if there is a bigger destiny out there in the cosmos.
In March 2022, Evil Twin Artworks launched The Galactic Junkers Kickstarter campaign with a goal to raise £15,000. Nearly two weeks into the campaign on April 5, the developer canceled the Kickstarter campaign and announced they had been approached and privately backed. Later that April, Green Man Publishing announced a global multiplatform publishing deal for the title.
Aspiring space captains can gain some valuable hands-on experience with The Galactic Junkers demo that is being released as a part of Steam Next Fest. Players can search the galaxy for derelict ships to salvage all the while avoiding bounty hunters. Plus there are those pesky aliens lurking in the void of space.
The Galactic Junkers release date is set for June 30, 2022. Priced at $16.99/£12.99/€13.99 the game is initially launching on Windows PC via Steam and on consoles for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Nintendo Switch version will release in early July. PC players can add the game to their wishlist on Steam. Follow @GalacticJunkers on Twitter for more information.
