Firefly Studios has released the next entry into the castle sim RTS Stronghold series that takes players to East Asia in Stronghold: Warlords. In this release there are several historical campaigns that range from 300 BC China to 16th century Japan.
Today’s game launch includes a new trailer that features fresh gameplay mechanics, a full campaign map, and a story preview narrated by Rae Lim. Stronghold: Warlords features a new AI warlords system that allows players to recruit, upgrade, and command warlords across the battlefield. Every warlord under control by the player boosts their strategic prowess with unique perks, characteristics, and upgrade abilities. These benefits can be used to boost industry, fortify defenses, or team up for a pincer attack.
Example uses of warlords can be taking an Ox or Pig Warlord to help save a distressed economy. These warlords can boost industry and food reserves through their unique Edict commands and passive perks. Dragon or Tiger Warlords can supply special units that enable players to launch attacks in a pincer movement against enemies.
This is the first game from Firefly Studios to recreate the castle economies of East Asia. Players can control Mongol hordes, imperial warriors, and samurai clansmen as they lay siege to fortified Chinese cities and Japanese castles. The historical missions features 31 campaigns. Using new gunpowder-fueled siege weapons, players can besiege historical warlords in a completely new playstyle.
Stronghold: Warlords is available on Windows PC through Humble Bundle and Steam for $39.99 USD. A Stronghold: Warlords Special Edition that includes the soundtrack composed by Robert L. Euvino, digital art book, and feature length making of the game documentary is available for $49.99 USD. Ending on March 16, there is a special launch promotion that reduces the game’s price by 10%.
