Solo indie developer Affordable Cat is taking players on an edge of their seat investigative horror-filled struggle of survival in Martha. With so many having now disappeared one must ask is there a serial killer on the loose or is it something much more sinister?
The story of Martha places the player in 1996 as Isabelle Hewitt. She is a determined freelance reporter who gets stuff done. A close work colleague, Jack Meyer, has gone missing with no word from him for two weeks. This is highly unusual for Jack who was on the outskirts of Annadeer investigating a family that went missing at Albrecht Estate. With a rumored curse, the house has been left abandoned and the police are reluctant to investigate the volume to missing people.
Presented in classic 3D first-person thriller survival fashion, Martha offers players players both action and puzzles during their investigation. The game follows a non-linear structure so players get to decide their path when tackling the challenges that lay before them as they uncover the truth.
Focusing on combat, players face many moments where they must decide to fight or flee. Ammo is limited and the foes are deadly so in order to survive one will need to pick the right weapons and the right moment to fight back.
As players journey through the two to five hour long playthrough they will unravel a rich tale. From interesting characters to juicy family secrets, players will have plenty of entertaining story elements to discover and learn. While the dirty laundry of the past keeps piling up, one will need to survive if they ever want to report on this story.
Martha is available on Steam for $3.99 USD. A 10% off discount promotion runs until February 15, 2021. The Windows PC game is also available on Itch for $2.99 USD. For more information about Martha visit the game’s page on the developer’s website here.
