If you haven’t heard, Steam Next Fest February 2023 Edition is happening. As in right now!
The event offers loads of demos and livestreams, where in most cases features a game’s developers playing their own game. Players can ask questions via chat and wishlist their favorite upcoming titles.
However, the best part of Steam Next Fest is getting to play the demos. With this year’s event featuring hundreds of demos, a player might find themselves a bit overwhelmed. Don’t worry, Nano Gaming News has your back. We have combed through the impressive list of titles and have created a list of five recommend games, in no particular order, you should check out before the event ends.
1. Darkest Dungeon II
Red Hook Studios is diving back in to the darkest of dungeons with Darkest Dungeon II. The original turn-based roguelike RPG, Darkest Dungeon, released in 2016 and since then has amassed over one hundred thousand reviews with 91% of them being positive.
In the newest release players can expect more of the roguelike RPG action with unforgettable heroes that feature skills, paths, items and much more. Stress management returns so will the heroes bond or get on each other’s nerves? This follow-up title also features improvements on the genre-defining art, expansive musical scoring, and nightmarish environments.
Darkest Dungeon II is planned for a May 8, 2023 release on Steam.
2. Planet of Lana
A colorful world with cold machines and unfamiliar creatures await a young girl and her loyal friend who set off on a rescue mission in Planet of Lana. In the past, the planet was an undisturbed place between nature, animals, and humans. Now a faceless army is disrupting that balance and instead of a war story, players are taken through a saga about the effort to keep the beautiful planet the way it always was.
Players will solve puzzles with diverse challenges and interesting twists while utilizing companion-based gameplay. Dangerous situations need to be navigated using stealth and wit. Some action sequences require fast reflexes to survive. In the end an epic cinematic sci-fi saga will be told that spans across both centuries and galaxies.
Planet of Lana is being published by Thunderful Publishing and developed by Swedish indie studio Wishfully. The game has a planned release in Q2 2023 on Steam and Xbox.
3. Voidtrain
Have you ever wanted to become a crew member of an Interdimensional Express Train? Well here is you chance with HypeTrain Digital’s Voidtrain. From building and expanding the train to exploring the vast and ever-changing mysterious Void, there are plenty of opportunities for those seeking adventure.
The Void is a nasty and dangerous place with brutal soldiers and bloodthirsty sharks. To survive one will need to craft and customize weapons and equipment to suit their playstyle. One can stand take a stand against multiple enemy waves or find an escape. Regardless of choice, the fight for your life is constant.
Voidtrain is planned for a 2023 release on Steam.
4. Dark and Darker
Korean developer IRONMACE is teasing unforgiving hardcore fantasy fans with their FPS dungeon PvPvE title Dark and Darker. While the demo is part of the developer’s Alpha Playtest #4, there are loads of features to check as one bands together with others and brave the dark depths of an ancient citadel. Mythical treasures, gruesome monsters, and other devious treasure hunters await. In the end can you escape with your riches before the darkness or others lay claim to your life and treasure?
Build the perfect three-person squad using classic fantasy roles such as a barbarian, ranger, or bard. The world is of high risk, high reward. Death and danger lurks around every corner, but so do huge rewards. Combat is first-person and players must target, track, and aim against all challenges using a range of weapons. Magic is powerful, but difficult to control and master. Darkness is both an ally and foe. It can either hide other dangers or the secret path to escape with all your riches.
Dark and Darker currently does not have a release date set. The Alpha Playtest #4 demo is available on Steam for the duration of the Steam Next Fest February 2023 event.
5. Plan B: Terraform
Gaddy Games is inviting players to terraform lifeless space rocks into lush habitable worlds in Plan B: Terraform. Using a hexagonal title grid on an enormous planet, players will build trucks, trains, and factories to grow a population into millions while terraforming this newly discovered world.
Gameplay is on a planetary scale with more than a million hexagons. Using a real-time dynamic simulation of atmosphere, temperature, water, and forests, players will experience a realistic planetary terraformation scenario.
Plan B: Terraform is set for an Early Access release on February 15, 2023, on Steam.
