A holiday fright has arrived in Tripwire Interactive’s first-person shooter and co-op action game, Killing Floor 2, with the Polar Distress update. The free update is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One family of devices.
This year’s free annual holiday update brings a heavy helping of holiday treats. A new featured community map, Crash, along with weekly mode, weapons, loads of holiday cheer are ready to be unwrapped.
Crash is a standard survival map. It is compatible with Survival, Weekly, Versus, and Endless Game modes. Like previous seasonal maps, Crash features seasonal objectives. Completing all of the seasonal objectives will earn the Train Conductor Backpack.
Christmas Prize Tickets and Christmas Gold Prize Tickets are available as drops during the events. Tickets can be exchanged for cosmetic gear related to the seasonal event. In total, there are four new weapon skin bundles and one outfit bundle are included in the update.
Two new free HRG weapons, HRG Medic Missile for Field Medic and HRG Ballistic Bouncer for Support, are available. In addition two new paid DLC weapons along with five skin variants are available. HV Storm Cannon is a paid DLC for the Sharpshooter that is a tier 4 rifle with a charged electric shot. Demolitionists have access to the tier 5 paid DLC Zed Eradication Device MKIII heavy weapon that fires a continuous stream of energy rounds while launching swarm auto target rockets at set intervals.
Perk Roulette is a new Weekly game mode. This mode no longer gives players a choice for their perk. Each wave assigns players a new perk. Those who can endure and survive in this mode can earn the Perk Roulette Backpack. Note that success demands that players make the best with what they have in this intense mode of random chaos.
A number of bug fixes, balancing changes, and quality of life improvements are included in the Polar Distress update. For a more complete list of changes check out the changelog here.
Like previous annual Holiday events, such as 2021’s Chop ‘Til You Drop event or 2020’s Christmas Crackdown, this event is only available for a limited time. All of the 2022 Christmas holiday zed-filled action starts on December 7, 2022 and will run until January 7, 2023.
Killing Floor 2 along with the Polar Distress update is available on Windows PC through Humble Bundle, Epic Games Store, and Steam for $29.99/£24.99/€29.99.
