In case you haven’t heard, Steam Next Fest: February 2022 is happening right now and is full of new demos and livestreams.
It is understandable if you have not heard. Many gamers, including this writer, are currently immersed in the recent Lost Ark release, however, you should really take a moment to check out this seven day event. During this multi-day video game celebration gamers can try out demos for upcoming game releases. There are also opportunities to chat with developers, watch livestreams, and learn about future titles heading to Steam.
Those who are looking for what to play next can head over to the Steam Next Fest page which features all the games participating in the event. Games are broken down into categories: Action, Adventure, Strategy, Simulation, RPG, Puzzle, Platformer, Sports+Racing, Controller, and VR.
All you need to do is click on the desired genre and scroll through the titles which are further broken down into subcategories of the genre. For example if you are looking for Metroidvania games head on over to the Adventure category and then scroll down to the Metroidvania group. Here one will find demo’s for games like MURICA, Souldiers, Otherworld Legends, Imp of the Sun, Bio-Gun, Minishoot’, Aeternum Vale, Chains of Fury, Kingdom Shell, Resurrection of Mind, Islets, Witchcrafty, Sophie, and Chronicles of 2 Heroes: Amaterasu’s Wrath. All these titles with demos are just one subcategory of a genre.
On the home page, current livestreams are featured with game information listed in the right panel. In the left panel are list of all the different streams available and what game is being discussed. A broadcast schedule is listed below the main stream panel with current live events and what is up next. Users who are signed into their Steam account can see games on their wishlist that are participating in the event. Gamers can also get an idea of what others might be playing next by checking out the popular upcoming titles and most wishlisted upcoming games under the Browse Demos panel.
Steam Next Fest is not just for video game fans. Developers can use the event to get early feedback from players and help buildup their community ahead of their game’s launch. Game designers who would like to participate in Steam Next Fest for their future game title will want to watch for the next event announcement which will feature registration details including the deadline.
