Independent game developer and publisher Crunchy Leaf Games released their deckbuilding lane battling game, Crystal Clash, on Steam. The free-to-play game takes influence from popular Warcraft and Starcraft mods to create an action-filled combination of MOBA, tower defense, and deck building.
Originally the Crystal Clash was released in 2019 under the title Rise of Legions under development by Broken Games. Since then the game maintained a “Very Positive” rating on Steam with over 1,600 reviews. However, the game struggled to maintain a steady player count which presented difficult challenges for the most dedicated fans.
In November of 2021 the game’s publisher, Crunchy Leaf Games, offered to continue the legacy of Rise of Legions, but it will have to do so under a different name. The name change was required as Broken Games is the property owner of the Rise of Legions name. With the handoff the game’s new name became Crystal Clash and the publisher ensured that players would be able to keep everything they earned in the new game that will feature a more dedicated focus on 2v2 and co-op.
The fans have been waiting for this for a long time. We’re excited to finally give them what they want!

Since the handoff, the game has been carefully rebalanced with 2v2 and co-op as the game’s new core focus. There are over 100 unique cards from five different legions. Players can combine these cards to create their own unique tactics and strategies on the battlefield. Gameplay features an exciting tug-of-war lane battle with intense matches and PvE challenges. Add in the ability to summon legends and dual color decks no one match will ever be the same.
Crystal Clash is available free-to-play for Windows PC through Steam. For more information about Crystal Clash follow @Rise_Of_Legions on Twitter or visit the game’s website at crystal-clash.com.
