Daedalic Entertainment and developer Dark Lord have released their top-down arcade classic inspired game Glitchpunk on Steam early access. Players will find plenty of action as they brawl, shoot, and drive their way through this sci-fi dystopian future.
Entering the streets of New Baltia players will find a world that is completely unhinged full of unbridled insanity. The game is a cyberpunk-theme modern take on the old-school feel of GTA 2. All of the action is top-down and set in a neon world of gangs, cults, and corporations.
As an android bounty hunter, players are immersed into a world of transhumanism, xenophobia, and religion. Of course there are lots of things to blow up, but the player can influence the world around them by making new friends, facing off against countless enemies, and even possibly convert an enemy’s aversion to affection.
At the start of early access the first city of New Baltia is available. Outpost Texas is set to arrive three to four weeks after the start of early access. Two additional cities, Moscow and Neo Tokyo, will be added at a later date during the early access development phase. Each city has its won gangs and characters in addition to the continuing story of the game’s protagonist. A total of 12 gangs are planned.
Gameplay features a mature story with several possible endings. A massive arsenal of weapons is available for players. Hacking allows players to control the minds of pedestrians and various devices. Travel is easy with so many choices that include trains, tanks, motorbikes, buses, trucks, and cars. Police chases features up to ten escalations of wanted levels allowing for much mayhem. An in-game radio features music by artists from around the world. The game’s art style is a rare mix of 2D sprites in a 3D environment.
A detailed roadmap for Glitchpunk is scheduled to be released shortly after the August 11, 2021 early access release. The roadmap will include more information on the updates planned for the game.
Glitchpunk is available in early access on Windows PC through Humble Bundle and Steam for $19.99 USD. An early access 20% off release promotion runs until August 18, 2021. For more information about Glitchpunk visit the game’s Steam page.
