Bloober Team is holding nothing back ahead of the late January release of their upcoming psychological horror title The Medium, in the official live action cinematic trailer.
The trailer was produced in cooperation with award-winning VFX and animation studio Platige Image. Academy award nominee Tomasz Bagiński served as Writer and Creative Producer who was responsible for directing the cinematics for The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077, in addition to various Microsoft and Ubisoft productions. Talented Polish director, screenwriter and film editor Paweł Maślona directed the cinematic trailer.
The Medium is a game with a very strong narrative backbone. The most important thing for me was to understand what the essence of this story is, who its heroes are and its tone. The task was to lean as hard as possible on the emotional side of the story while trying to keep as many of the twists as possible a secret. The script is supposed to build a certain mood rather than reveal a story.

In the live action trailer the stunning details of the game’s unique art style inspired by painter Zdzisław Beksiński is brought to life. Key characters that are core to the game’s mysterious story are featured including the medium Marianna, the enigmatic Thomas, a spirit named Sadness and the hostile entity known as The Maw.
The Medium is our biggest and most ambitious project to date. When we thought who could write a live action trailer for the game, Tomasz Bagiński quickly became the most natural choice. After all, his Oscar-nominated The Cathedral was also inspired by the art of Zdzisław Beksiński, just like the spirit world in our game. I’m personally very happy that we could create something together.

The Medium is set for a January 28, 2021 release date on PC and the Xbox Series X/S consoles. At launch the game will be priced at $49.99 USD. Players who order the game on Steam, Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store before January 28, 2021 will receive a 10% discount. In addition those who pre-order the game on Steam or Epic Games Store will also get The Medium original soundtrack, featuring a ‘dual’ score soundtrack by legendary composer Akira Yamaoka, of Silent Hill, and Bloober Team’s own Arkadiusz Reikowski, along with the digital artbook.

Bloober Team SA (@BlooberTeam Twitter) is an independent developer and producer of video games based in Kraków, Poland. Founded in 2008 by Peter Babieno and Peter Bielatowicz, the studio at first only did contract work. Over time a talented team was assembled and began to work on their own projects that include Layers of Fear, >observer_ and Blair Witch.
