Space Engineers to Exit Early Access After 5 Years

Yes, you read that right. After 5 years, Space Engineers is set to exit early access with an upcoming Major Overhaul of Survival update. And all of this will be happening at the end of February.

Space Engineers saw its initial Early Access release in October 2013 and one of the first Early Access games on Steam. The game then entered its Beta in December 2016. Since then the developers, Keen Software House, have worked to release the game in the state that they felt would fulfill their original vision. This included planned features and core game components in addition to several unplanned items such as solar panels or wheels.

There have been over 200 updates which included several game changes such as planets, super-large worlds, multithreaded physics, and more. The goal was to create a complete space engineering sandbox from the studio’s original proof of concept. Now with a solid foundation combined with the upcoming Major Overhaul of Survival update Space Engineers is ready to leave Early Access

Currently the game has sold over 3 million copies and has more than 200,000 monthly active users. With the now solid foundation the developers plan to continue releasing new features and content for Space Engineers. Some planned additions include new blocks and scenarios that will take the game to exciting places in terms of gameplay, immersion, and challenges. An Xbox port is also one of the top priorities for the team.

Space Engineers the sandbox space engineering, construction, survival, and exploration game is set to exit Steam Early Access on February 28, 2019 at 9 AM PST (5 PM UTC). For more information about Space Engineers visit their site at SpaceEngineersGame.com.
