Iron Tower Studio released the early access turned-based RPG Colony Ship: A Post-Earth Role Playing Game on Windows PC today. Using the Unreal Engine the studio brings their hardcore RPG experience to space through Steam early access and GOG in development digital distribution platforms. Currently the first chapter of the game is available.
Set aboard a generation ship in the year of 2754 that was launched to Proxima Centauri players participate in a turn-based party-based RPG. The game features a highly detailed skill-based character system. Quests have multiple ways in which they can be approached. With branching dialogue trees and choices having real consequences players will determine who their friends and enemies are.
Inspired by Robert A. Heinlein’s Orphans of the Sky the game operates as an isometric RPG where the entire world for the character is the generation ship called Starfarer. The ship itself is old as it was previously an interplanetary freighter. No one alive now will see the ship reach its destination nor do they care. Following a violent mutiny, the ship’s original government has been disbanded. Now players must negotiate their path forward that deals with fellow passengers and the various factions striving to dominate the ship.
Party members with different personalities, agendas and beliefs can be recruited with three available in the first chapter and later on a total of 10 possible. There are three main factions and several lesser factions and groups. A large arsenal of weapons that includes melee weapons, firearms, energy pistols, grenades, and future tech is available for use. Combat is tactical and turn-based with standard, aimed, and weapon-specific attacks.
Throughout the ship are different environments to explore such as the Engine Room, Hydroponics, Mission Control ruins, and the dystopian-like cities of the Habitat. In the first chapter only the Pit, Armory and Hydroponics are available.
Colony Ship is available in early access on Windows PC through Steam or GOG in development for $24.99 USD. An early access launch 10% off discount is available until April 13, 2021.
