Publisher Stray Fawn and indie game developer The Wandering Band have released their flying skyward city building adventure, Airborne Empire, on Steam Early Access. The aerial city-building and colony management title soars to new heights as the next entry in the series.
In this follow-up to the BAFTA-nominated Airborne Kingdom, players will have a new experience in Airborne Empire with expanded open-world exploration, deeper role-playing mechanics, and colorful characters. In addition, combat is introduced into the series for the first time.
Gameplay is focused on building a fantasy city in the clouds, while also managing resources and fighting off nefarious sky pirates. Secrets await discovery and thrilling quests are ready for willing adventurers to complete in the massive world. Gain enough resources and expand the settlement.
Daring leaders must answer the call to travel through arid deserts and dense woodlands for the sake of their city. A vibrant cast of characters inhabit the world. Recruit new citizens and through one’s efforts gain unlockable upgrades. With a city in the clouds, can one strike a balance between the land and the skies?

Airborne Empire is available on PC via Steam for $29.99. A 10% discount is available until January 27, 2025. At this time no details are a available about releases on other platforms.

Stray Fawn Studio is a ten person indie game studio based in Zurich, Switzerland that was founded by Micha Stettler and Philomena Schwab. With procedural content generation and the simulation of living worlds forming the core of the studio’s creations, the team’s focus is on developing their own projects, often in the simulation game genre. Game’s developed by Stray Fawn Studios include Dungeon Clawler, The Wandering Village, and Nuimbatus – The Space Drone Constructor. In 2023 the studio expanded into indie game publishing with Stray Fawn Publishing with titles such as Flotsam, Retimed, TerraScape, Airborne Empire, and Earth of Oryn.
The Wandering Band is an indie game development studio. Founded in 2018, the studio focuses on creating unique, high-quality interactive experiences that challenge genre boundaries and explores new topics via game mechanics. The studio was founded by industry veterans Frederik Gareau, Zachary Mumbach, and Ben Wander, who have decades of combined AAA experience with work spanning multiple hit franchises including Dead Space, Dragon Age, Battlefield, and Star Wars. In 2020, the studio released its first title, Airborne Kingdom, which received a BAFTA nomination for “Best Debut Game” and is currently working on Airborne Empire.
