Skystone Games and independent game developer Thing Trunk have officially launched their roguelike deck building dungeon crawler Hellcard. The version 1.0 release includes a new class and other content for the Book of Demons spin-off title.
Rising up from the inferno legacy of Book of Demons, this successor offers a blend of strategic card gameplay that is set in the unique award-winning pop-up dark and immersive Paperverse book world. Book of Demons established itself as a force in the hack and slash card game genre with one million copies in sales.
Featuring a distinct art style alongside its unique challenges and mysteries, the dark and immersive world invites players to go at it alone with AI companions or with up to 3 players in multiplayer co-op gameplay. Engage in intense dynamic card battles deep in the procedurally generated dark dungeons. Death is never the end as the roguelike gameplay elements will give players a chance to grow stronger for their next attempt.
Last week the Hellcard Launch Trailer was released, teasing the new Tinkerer class. Joining alongside the Warrior, Rogue, and Mage classes, the Tinkerer finds success where magic and wit fails with science and gunpowder. By bringing a fresh perspective to the underworld, the Tinkerer adds another layer of gameplay depth through the use of new innovative strategies to overcome various dungeon challenges.
In the launch trailer various enemies were also teased including skeleton archers, disgraced priests, exploding demons, and time-controlling gods. Those who beat back these threats may discover hidden lore and create a tale worthy of a bard’s song.
The Hellcard Launch Trailer is available for viewing below or on the Thing Trunk YouTube channel.
Since the Hellcard Early Access launch in February 2023, the game has gathered over 1500 Steam reviews with a “Very Positive” rating. In addition, the free to play Hellcard: Prologue has seen nearly 350 reviews with a “Very Positive” rating.
