Developer and publisher Tripwire Interactive have announced that Killing Floor 3 is currently in development for PC and consoles.
Revealed during the Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live event, Killing Floor 3 will be the studio’s next chapter in the flagship co-op action horror FPS franchise. Over 28 million players from around the world have battled against horrific hordes of Zeds across PC and consoles.
It’s hard to believe that Killing Floor is almost 15 years old now. We’ve provided free support to the player base all that time, through two incarnations, so now we’re beyond excited to start showing you what mayhem the next iteration of the franchise will bring you!
Alan Wilson, Co-Founder and CEO at Tripwire Interactive
The original title, Killing Floor first launched in 2009, and the sequel, Killing Floor 2, launched in 2016. In the nearly 15 years since release, the developer has engaged and grown massive community following through a steady flow of free and premium post-launch content via their industry-leading games-as-a-service (GaaS) support. A recent example of this GaaS support can be seen in the Killing Floor 2 Deep Blue Z update released this past June that included the new community map Subduction and the new weekly game mode Contamination Zone.
Going forward, the developer is harnessing the power of Unreal Engine 5 to build upon the series legacy. The use of Unreal Engine 5 aids in realizing the gruesome graphical vision of the game and embraces its dark dystopian tone to deliver the next evolution in action and horror for the franchise.
As a lifelong horror fan, it’s been an honor to lead our passionate development team as we create Killing Floor 3. We’re extremely excited for fans to finally experience the world we’ve been building.
Bryan Wynia, Studio Creative Director at Tripwire Interactive
The Future is Bleak
Killing Floor 3 is set in the year 2091, 70 years after the events in Killing Floor 2. Megacorp Horzine has created the ultimate army of obedient bioengineered monstrosities called Zeds. The only thing standing between these horrific creations and the future of humanity is a ragtag rebel group known as Nightfall.
Players assume the role of a Nightfall specialist who joins forces with up to five other teammates to battle against the Zed army. This dystopian future is war-ravaged and filled with unrelenting waves of Zeds. Battle experience will harden one’s resolve by unlocking new skills while also building the ultimate arsenal.
