Fellow Traveller and indie developer Hiding Spot Games have released their cute and creepy adventure game, Beacon Pines. The mysterious adventure within a book launches on Xbox One, Xbox GamePass, Nintendo Switch, and PC via various digital distribution platforms.
Billed as a storybook mix of Stranger Things meets Winnie-the-Pooh, Beacon Pines uncovers an unexpected mystery. Players will help Luka, Rolo, and Beck along in the story. The story’s outcome is determined by the ‘charms’ used to tell the tale and the fate of the cozy town.
At the old warehouse in town something strange is going down. The only ones who seem to notice are Luka and his pals. To get to the bottom of the mystery, they will need to sneak out late, make some new friends, uncover hidden truths, and collect ‘charms’ or rather words that will change the story’s course.
Through investigation, players will collect special golden charms. Each has a word written on it. The charms can be used at critical turning points in the story to fill in a blank and change the direction of everything.
Using The Chronicle, players can navigate the story’s turning points through the interactive story tree that branches and grows with one’s choices. By exploring one set of events, players can unlock new charms and use them to explore another branch. This enables players to jump back and forth between completely different versions of the story to fully uncover the mystery.
Beacon Pines is out now on Humble Bundle, GOG, and Steam for $19.99. The game is also available on Nintendo Switch and Xbox One for $19.99. Follow @BeaconPines on Twitter or visit the game’s webpage on the developer’s website here for more information.
