Coffee Stain Publishing and developer Vaulted Sky Games is hosting a closed beta this weekend for its multiplayer prop hunt game Midnight Ghost Hunt. This second closed beta features vaulting, map polishing, visual updates, progression changes, AI-controlled bots, anti-cheat, matchmaking improvements, trap reworks, cosmetics, NVIDIA DLSS support, and more.
From the latest Dev Blog post on the Midnight Ghost Hunt website readers are treated with a lot of details on new and updated features included in the January closed beta. Players in the beta will immediately notice several visual and other immersive gameplay changes. Ghost hunters will find both the van ride and the boat ride now includes realistic bumps, camera tweaks, and new sitting animations.
Several maps have been updated. The most iconic map, Mansion, has seen a visual transformation turning it into the haunted Victorian mansion concept that originally inspired it. The Museum map has cleaned up meshes and improved lighting. Layout tweaks to the Factory map have been added to improve the map’s balance. Some of the other maps have also had some polishing.
AI-controlled bots are ready for testing. These bots will fill empty player slots. When a player joins the match they will replace a bot spot. This is to help ensure players experience a 4v4 match at all times. Match hosts can disable this option in the Server Tools interface. Matchmaking has seen further improvements to make matches more balanced when players queue through the quick play system.
Vaulting has arrived. Hunters can climb up and over obstacles in their way. This ability allows hunters to be more nimble and mobile. Anti-ghost traps have been reworked to make them more consistent. Traps will now pull ghosts out of their prop and into ghost form when trapped. Ghosts can simply punch the trap a few times to break free, however, during this time trapped ghosts are vulnerable.
NVIDIA DLSS support has arrived. For those that own an RTX 20 or 30 series graphics card can test out this new functionality in this beta test. DLSS stands for Deep Learning Super Sampling and is an AI render technology that helps to increase GPU performance. In other words this feature is to help give players extra frames at those higher resolutions. A video that compares DLSS off and on in Midnight Ghost Hunt is available.
There are many other changes, new features, and updates in this closed beta test along with information gathered and lesson’s learned from last October’s closed beta test. For more details check out the January 20, 2022, Dev Blog post on the Midnight Ghost Hunt website.
