Canadian independent developer 3Mind Games announced that their turn-based tactical RPG, The Protagonist: EX-1, has exited early access. Available in full release on PC the game puts players behind enemy lines on an alien space station.
A war has been brewing between the planet Terra and an invading synthetic alien threat. As Angel, a highly trained special agent, players discover that they are being sent to an alien ship with a squad. The goal was to neutralize an imminent global threat, however, the mission goes drastically wrong.
After the mission’s collapse, Angel awakens in the vessel’s infirmary. Alone and without any memory of what happened, Angel is left to trust an unfamiliar voice to guide her through the alien ship. Formidable enemies stand in her way as she navigates the unknown to find the rest of her team and fight for the survival of humanity back on Terra.
Both RPG and turn-based strategy elements are combined alongside a gripping science fiction story that is designed to give players hours of entertainment. As players control Angel and the squad, they can personalize their campaign. From customizing the teams close-combat abilities to navigating dynamic dialogue trees, players will learn that their choices can have drastic consequences.
Gameplay is focused on the extraterrestrial tale that offers both intrigue and adventure. Players are thrown in various combat situations against various enemies where they can get creative using the Martial Arts Combat System and the Initiative and Action Points System. With time awesome and powerful combos can be unlocked that deal devastating blows to foes.
Various puzzles will challenge players as they attempt to recover their team and complete their missions as they explore the alien vessel. There are seven playable characters, ten types of enemies, and over 19 weapon types to blast those enemies. In game characters are voiced with a wide cast that includes Hollywood actors Temuera Morrison and Tony Todd. As players dive deeper into the war narrative, both mystery and extra-terrestrial action will present itself with the fate of Terra in their hands.
