Indie developer Afterburner Studios and publisher Freedom Games jump into early access with Dreamscaper, a modern take on the roguelite ARPG genre. The project is the developer debut title after a successful Kickstarter in September 2019 that passed several stretch goals including a Nintendo Switch Port.
Part of the game’s journey takes place in twisted dream realms created by the mind of a young woman dealing with her inner demons named Cassidy. She is stuck in a traumatizing loop of restless sleep that brings nightmares with demons and challenges to overcome. Lucid dreaming is her only defense against the darkness. Only by fortifying her psychic abilities in the world of the awake through friendships will she be able fight back.
Combat in Dreamscaper features an expressive battle system full of intense hack and slash action. Players are able to wield imaginative weapons that include ethereal yo-yos to blazing finger guns as the enemies of darkness are destroyed. As players advance they will be manipulating the elements, warping space, and controlling time in a complex weave with careful positioning, precise timing, and fast reflexes to save Cassidy from a dark fate.
It’s been an exciting journey this summer on our road to Early Access, and we’ve been blown away by the response to Dreamscaper in events like the Steam Game Festival, IGN’s Summer of Gaming, and Day of the Devs. Unleashing the game on Steam today is a huge milestone for us and we’re looking forward to hearing more from players as we continue to fine-tune this experience and make Dreamscaper the action RPG of our dreams.

Players can unlock persistent upgrades that harness potent effects. These upgrades are critical when taking on horrific bosses that embody negative emotions such as loss and isolation. The only way out of this nightmarish cycle is to explore and march straight through the ever-changing dreamscapes.
The Dreamscaper: Prologue is available to play for free on Steam. In the prologue players can become familiar with the game’s mechanics and even hone their skills in warping the dreamscape itself.
Dreamscaper is available as an early access title on Windows PC through Steam for $19.99 USD. A special promotion runs until August 20 that discounts the game by 25%.
