From the creators of The Messenger’s universe, Sabotage Studio, come’s a prequel story of two Children of the Solstice to Kickstarter with Sea of Stars. In just 7 hours after the campaign’s launch, Sea of Stars received funding and revealed stretch goals.
Inspired by 1990’s classics, Sea of Stars is a turn-based RPG that aims to modernize the genre. Sabotage Studio plans to do this by creating their own definitive edition for the genre through story-telling, turn-based combat, exploration, and interaction with the environment. Mixed in will be elements and nostalgia with old-fashioned fun.
The game itself resides in a shared universe where the developer is excited to show players all the stories and characters that are encased within an RPG. Combining the powers of the sun and moon to perform Eclipse Magic, the Children of the Solstice is a story of two kids that fend off the monsters created by the evil alchemist, The Flashmancer.
Combat is turn-based that includes active player input with timed hits, multi-character combos, boosting, and defense that all takes place in the same environment without transitions. Players are free to travel the realm through swimming, climbing, vaulting, and jumping that breaks away from classic tile and grid movements.
Included in the game is dynamic lighting with the studio’s custom-made render pipeline that allows for stunning visuals and pushes the limit of 2D pixel-art games.
Over 3,465 backers at the time of this article helped to fund Sea of Stars on Kickstarter. Full funding was accomplished just after 6 hours and 15 minutes of the campaign that launched on March 18. The Kickstarter campaign runs until April 18, 2020.
With full funding comes the first stretch goal that will add Single Player+ mode allowing for a second player to drop in and out. This allows for two heroes that can roam the world together and fight together. A few optional puzzles that require two players will unlock the Halls of Cooperation, a short bonus dungeon to complete with a friend.
Sea of Stars aims for a PC and console release in 2022. Players can wishlist the game on Steam. For more information about Sea of Stars visit the game’s website at seaofstarsgame.co or follow @seaofstarsgame on Twitter.
