Two Star Games and Vicarious Publishing released details about their debut horror title, My Beautiful Paper Smile, that includes a spring 2020 early access.
A dark, dreamlike horror adventure awaits players that takes place in a world of strange science, spirits and the dark obsession. As one of the so-called Joyous, better known as the masked children raised underground, players will explore this nightmarish world. These children were trained to be perfect and failure is punished by the authorities.
Even the mere thought of escaping is absolutely forbidden. However, plans to leave are now in the works as a mysterious voice speaks to a child in their sleep.
Similar to Two Star Games’ previous title, My Friend is a Raven, My Beautiful Paper Smile is a horror story designed to get under the player’s skin instead of using jump scares and gore. Everything about the art styling is pencil-sketched to build a sense of unease while players dig deeper into the puzzles of the underground facility/ It is here where they will uncover dark truths and learn to fear the wandering and deadly Faceless One.
The game is being developed with the Unreal Engine 4. Chapters 1 and 2 of My Beautiful Paper Smile will launch in early access with Chapter 3 as a major update later. The final chapter, Chapter 4, will release when the full retail game ships. Various gameplay snippets and behind the scenes videos can be found on the Two Star Games’ YouTube channel.

Two Star Games (@TwoStarGames Twitter) is an independent game development studio. Founded in 2017 by solo developer Gavin Eisenbeisz, the studio will be releasing their first large commercial title with My Beautiful Paper Smile. Before starting Two Star Games, Eisenbeisz had been practicing game development as a hobby since 2012 and now pours his passion for art and storytelling into his new studio. Previously the studio released the free to play psychological horror My Friend is a Raven.
Vicarious Publishing (@VicariousPub Twitter) is a new game publisher from Vicarious PR, the award-winning video game PR and marketing agency. Based in Oceanside, CA, the new publisher’s first title will be My Beautiful Paper Smile.
