A release date for Bare Knuckle Development’s retro arcade shoot’em up, Super Mega Space Blaster Special Turbo has been set for mid-January.
As a modern take on the retro arcade space shooter of the past, Super Mega Space Blaster Special Turbo offers itself as a huge expansion of the original PC release. There are more modes, more ships, more enemies, more 80’s synth-pop, and much more. In other words more is the theme with the addition of a shop, upgradeable weapons, and additional challenges to live up to the turbo in the title.
Gameplay itself is easy to pickup, but hard to master. The fast-paced action is a frantic shoot’em up with elements of a bullet hell. Players alone or with friends in local co-op should find the game addictive as they look to unlock the next ship, get that next upgrade for their power-ups, and challenge themselves to beat their high-score.
Five unique game modes that includes two new Turbo edition modes give players plenty of things to do or rather shoot. In Save The Colony mode players work to save cute astronauts while destroying the boss to claim victory. Survival mode offers its own unique challenges as both fuel and ammo will need to be conserved and managed in order to beat the big boss. With Protect Mother mode players are tasked to protect their mother ship from damage as long as they can.
If one desires to compete with their friends and blast them into space dust the local competitive modes of To The Death and One Shot will provide plenty of opportunities.
There are over 40 fun challenges for players to collect extra coins which in turn can be used to unlock more ships, upgrade weapons and power-ups. Also, players should explore the shop for extra perks. Each ship has their own strengths and weaknesses for players to exploit and use to their advantage. From turrets that utilize twin stick controls to fast maneuverable ships there are plenty of ship styles to suit a players own playstyle.
Super Mega Space Blaster Special Turbo is scheduled for a January 14, 2020 release date on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and on Steam for Windows, Linux and Mac. The game will be priced at $4.99 USD.
