Merge Games along with developers, Team Crimson, have announced that their RPG, Crimson Keep will be launching by the end of November.
Crimson Keep is described as a first-person, rogue-like, action RPG. The game setting and story takes place 30 years after a curse destroyed the entire village of Larkstead where the player has been banished to the dungeons below.
Players get to explore, fight, and survive in the ever-changing labyrinth filled with monsters, traps, and treasure. The sunken remains of an ancient castle await for the player to cleanse offering a great power within.
Everything that happens to the player whether it be XP gains, loot drops, or damage taken determines if they survive or fall to the dungeon’s dark power.
Every time the player dies they will find a new procedurally generated dungeon. In other words, enemies never appear in the same spot, traps and shrines are in new locations. Players are challenged with perma-death, cursed items, hunger, and deities. If the player dies, they lose everything. However, if the player completes a zone, they will begin from it’s start point when they respawn.
There are three character classes. The Berserker, Witch, and Drifter. Gameplay is paced so that players are able to frequently empower their characters with new abilities and equipment. A wide range of weapons is available to suit all players and many enemies will require special strategies in order to defeat them.
Inspiration from games such as Diablo, Hexen, and Delver have influenced Crimson Keep’s development.
Crimson Keep is set for a November 29, 2018 release on PC and Nintendo Switch.
On Steam, Crimson Keep will cost $14.99 USD with an introductory discount of 15% until December 13, 2018.
On the Nintendo eShop, Crimson Keep is available for pre-order with a price tag of $19.99 USD for the Nintendo Switch. Any purchases made between November 22 and December 6 will receive a 20% discount as part of the introductory offer.
