Berlin-based indie game studio Maschinen-Mensch and Thunderful Publishing has released the turn-based expedition adventure sim, Curious Expedition 2, as an early access title on Steam. The game is the follow-up to the original Curious Expedition that was released in 2015 and features similar roguelike expeditions.
The year is 1889 and mysterious islands have begun to appear and vanish from the Atlantic. Explorer Clubs of the day are funding expeditions to seek out these strange islands and bring treasures back for exhibition at the World’s Fair in Paris. As an adventurer, players take on this task to set off for adventure.
Each world is procedurally generated with a variety of biomes. Danger and opportunity lurks around even twist and turn of the search for treasure. Resources must be managed to keep the expedition team alive and sane. Every adventure is its own unique experience with procedural storytelling changing up loyalty, relationships, mental stress and more.
Online challenges are available for players to join. They can pledge themselves to an Explorer Club to compete for unique rewards. New combat mechanics require more than just force to survive wild animals and legendary creatures that await.
Party members have access to equipable gear that allows for different builds to tackle various challenges. New expedition types along with unique goals and events offers a chance at unique rewards. From ghostly pirate ships to haggling with strange mole people there are plenty of things to see and explore in this comic-inspired art filled adventure.
