PLAYISM has announced that Momodora: Moonlit Farewell, the climax of the Momodora series developed by Bombservice, will release in January 2024. A release date trailer is also available showing off the beautiful 2D world.
Taking place five years after the events of Momodora III, this latest entry is the culmination of the Momodora series. Demons have flooded the world after being summoned by the ringing of a mysterious bell. Momo, a high priestess of Koho Village, has taken up the task to free the world from these demons. To accomplish this feat, Momo will need to explore the fantasy world, use flashy attacks and Sigils to purify the demons, and uncover untold secrets.
Like other series’ games, this entry features exploration-heavy Metroidvania action in a 2D pixel world. This entry is full of gorgeous pixel art and animations that offer an improvement over previous entries. Each stage a player experiences contains detailed pixel art. Character moves are smooth and dynamic that help to bring the awe-inspiring world to life.
Players can customize their run using Sigils. Shops, exploration, and game events are all the ways to obtain Sigils. With effects ranging from strengthening attacks or healing to summoning magical swords that smite enemies, Sigils offers a variety of ways to shake up the playthrough. Sigils can be activated or deactivated whenever a player desires.
Throughout one’s journey and exploration of the world various bosses will be encountered. These formidable foes will require players to use their attacks and Sigils wisely to defeat them.
Difficulty settings allow players to explore the world on their own terms. A casual and lighthearted Light difficulty allows for a more laidback gameplay experience. Normal difficulty is available for those who desire a more challenging experience. Light difficulty also includes a toggleable Adaptive Difficulty option that makes a character stronger each time it falls in battle.
The totality of the knowledge that the developers have acquired over the years while developing the Momodora series has been poured into this newest entry. Series veterans and newcomers will find delight in this release as the indie developer has designed the game to be enjoyed by both groups.
