Assemble Entertainment and German independent game developer Grimbart Tales released their 2.5D Mesoamerican-inspired platformer, ITORAH, on PC. Full of rich hand-painted visuals, the exotic lands of Nahucan come to life in this story of a doomed world.
As the last human lost in a strange world, Itorah and her snarky weapon sidekick, Koda, travel through these exotic lands. Filled with masked beings and enemies the world also faces threat from a mysterious plague bent on consuming everything. Sacrifice, loss, and the journey towards redemption are at the heart of this tragic tale.
Gameplay utilizes a blended mix of platforming and action-adventure in a streamlined Metroidvania experience. With crisp controls there are over 200 animations to bring the protagonist’s range of abilities to life. When a player isn’t hacking and slashing their way across the lands, they are using their jumping and dodging skills to conquer progressively more difficult puzzles and platforming areas.
The unique lands of Nahucan invoke an urge to travel and see the world with its ancient Mesomaerican-inspired landscapes. Using compelling cutscenes a mature story unfolds and giving players a sense of the epic magnitude of the worldbuilding behind ITORAH.
Rarely do games give a spotlight to indigenous cultures and stories, and ITORAH tells a bittersweet story through hand-painted art, inspired by Mesoamerican culture. We’re proud and thrilled to release ITORAH with Grimbart Tales today, a studio devout in its passion to create amazing games; that’s what Assemble Entertainment is all about!
