Bloober Team along with Lionsgate Games have released a psychologically frightening Blair Witch gameplay trailer ahead of the upcoming release.
Little is known about the Blair With game, however, some of the backstory has been made available to this story-driven first-person psychological horror game. The setting is the Black Hills Forest near Burkittsville, Maryland. In September 1996 a nine year old boy disappeared in the area. The police have organized a search and Ellis, a former officer with a troubled past joins the search.
From the E3 2019 Reveal Trailer viewers learned that the story is told from Ellis’ perspective. Joining him in his search is his companion canine Bullet. Upon arriving at the search staging point several state police and sheriff vehicles can be seen. On the hood of one cruiser a mug and papers are spread out, however, lacking in the area are any actual officers.
At one point in the search for the missing kid, Bullet starts to run off. Ellis chases after where he tumbles down a hill. Not knowing where he is things go from bad to flat out scary.
In the new gameplay trailer viewers will see Ellis talking on the phone to someone named Jess. There is the expected spooky looking tree-filled forest from the movie. Immediately viewers are treated with a sample of how Bullet the dog can be commanded. For example he is seen digging at some rocks. Bullet can also be used to seek for Ellis.
Moving on in the trailer there is the found camcorder with all its unsteady movement that shows the past. As things become tense for Ellis and increasingly strange events occur his voice becomes more frantic. While talking to Jess about the storied rumors of the area Ellis describes what he is seeing as bad memories.
But are they bad memories? At one point Ellis is seen trying to reconnect to Jess when no signal is found. Next the psychological terror of the moment goes off the scale when something is clearly seen darting from tree to tree. In the next scenes a whispering voice is clearly heard saying “come to me” with other whispers inaudible.
As Ellis makes his way through an abandoned home while using the camcorder’s screen several flickers happen showing various things such as several hand prints going up a wall and the text of an operational report. At the end of the trailer Ellis is seen walking up to a window when something bursts through.
So far this is everything known about the story in the game. The tagline for the game is evil hides in the woods and the gameplay trailer does continue to sell that point.
Blair With will be available for PC and Xbox One family of devices during the worldwide release on August 30, 2019. Pre-orders are available now for the Xbox One version from Microsoft. PC players can find the game on Steam or GOG.com.
