Zen Studios announced the studio’s single largest production with Operencia: The Stolen Sun. The role-playing game combines classic turn-based RPG with stories, characters, and settings inspired by unexplored central European folklore and legends in a first-person dungeon-crawler.
Operencia: The Stolen Sun is fantasy world where history meets legend based off countless Central European folktales that have been told hundreds of years. All of these stories for the first time occur in a single universe. Real-life historical figures populate the game such as more legendary versions of King Attila and his wife Réka.
Locations in game vary from the standard set of fantasy locales such as castles, tombs, and forests, to real world landmarks presented in a fantastical form.
The story of Operencia follows a quest to free the abducted Sun King, Napkirály and saving the land from endless night. On the journey players will face malevolent monsters, devious traps, and mind-bending puzzles. And there will be three-headed dragons as seen in the trailer.
In the trailer players get a taste of the games beautiful art styling, fantasy settings, puzzles, and exploration that awaits all who dare to play.
The development studio has gone great lengths to ensure that everything in game feels familiar to RPG players, yet still modern and novel. The game features a classic tile based-based movement system where players explore the far reaches of the land while engaging in turn-based strategic battles.
Operencia: The Stolen Sun was born out of sheer passion and brings mysterious stories to life that have not been told in this setting. The stage is set for Zen to deliver a stunning and memorable experience. A team within Zen wanted to create a modernized dungeon crawler with Unreal 4 graphics and an immersive story based on content rarely seen in video games – including stories and characters they grew up living with in Central Europe that most of us in other parts of the world have never heard of…or at least we haven’t yet. Operencia is almost done now, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.
