X PLUS and developer Sonzai Games released their upbeat 3D platformer Super Sami Roll on consoles for PS5 and Nintendo Switch. Previously on July 21, 2021, the game was released on PC and currently features a 100% positive review rating on Steam.
Taking inspiration from platformers of the 1980’s and 1990’s like Marble Madness and Super Monkey Ball, Super Sami Roll delivers adorable characters, rolling hills, and high-rise thrills reminiscent of the golden days of gaming. Both console releases are the same as the PC release and the Nintendo Switch port runs at a smooth 60 FPS.
Finally! Being on a Nintendo console and Sony’s PlayStation 5 is a dream come true for someone like me, who grew up in the ‘90s. We spent quite a bit of time making sure it controls superbly whether you play with Nintendo’s Joy-Cons, the Pro Controller, or Sony’s DualSense. Super Sami Roll is very much a console game at heart.Sergio Matta, CEO and Lead Developer, Sonzai Games
In the game players will travel through roughly twelve hours of content to help Sami rescue his friend Vera. A super nasty meanie who goes by “Albert VII” has taken Vera to a faraway place. Sami, using his grappling tongue, will journey through beautiful green fields, deserts full of pyramids, dangerous oozing volcanoes, frigid ice lands, and several other memorable locations. If Sami ever finds himself in a difficult situation that grappling tongue of his will surely help him to escape.
The game features colorful eye-catching environments and characters created with hand-crafted pixel art that are mixed with modern 3D graphics. A variety of levels, in fact dozens upon dozens of unique levels provide plenty of entertainment. There are many secrets hidden that include unlockables such as a multiplayer mode. With an upbeat soundtrack the game sticks to the easy to learn, difficult to master mantra.
Super Sami Roll is available now on the PS5 from the PlayStation Store and on Nintendo Switch from the Nintendo Game Store with both priced at $14.99 USD. The game is also available on Windows PC through Steam for $14.99 USD. An Xbox Series X|S port release is planned in the near future.
